The air compressor on my air conditionioner went out (in AZ in the Summer!) and the mechanic quoted me $1200 with parts and labor!! I can get the part for $300.
an '88 car is going to have R-12 instead of the the newer R134........that means it is either going to have to be retrofitted or you will pay out the a--- for r-12... R12 is the old "freon" that price is about right for a complete job that will not crap out in a month or two......
